Star Wars: 50 Years of Toys, Collectibles, and Household Treasures (5 Book Set)
Product Description
An invaluable resource for collectors, researchers, and nostalgic fans, this 2,032-page, five-book box set provides an accessible, visual roadmap to 50 years of Star Wars merchandise, meticulously preserving everything from iconic toys to the most obscure international treasures. The release of Star Wars (later retitled Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope) on May 25, 1977, launched a global merchandise phenomenon unlike anything the pop culture galaxy has ever seen. Star Wars didn’t just survive across five decades; it kept reinventing and reformatting itself—reappearing on our shelves in ways that mirrored the technology, culture, and pace of everyday life in that moment. This five-volume archival masterpiece consolidates a half century of Star Wars merchandise history into a single, unified source. Inspired by the golden anniversary of the release of the franchise’s first film, Star Wars super collector and master archivist Geoffrey T. Carlton provides a definitive, unabridged "museum in print" that honors the full 50-year spectrum of merchandise. This set documents everything from celebrated toys to obscure international household treasures, transforming five decades of collecting chaos into an organized and enduring visual narrative. Key Features: Massive, Unparalleled Visual Archive: With more than 2,000 pages and 60,000 images, the five-book box set’s expansive scale stretches far beyond a "best of" list, allowing readers to finally identify and organize every corner of their collections. The set covers subtle production variations and packaging differences from over 50 countries. The history-curious will discover how the franchise permeated daily life through rare international releases and everyday household items, which are often excluded from standard guides that focus only on high-profile “hits” such as action figures. "Museum in Print" Documentation Style: Moving beyond the limitations of standard price guides, the set focuses on high-definition archival imagery and technical data rather than volatile market pricing, establishing it as a permanent reference tool that will remain relevant for decades and provide a stable foundation for research, appraisal, and historical preservation. Every entry is organized with the logic of a professional archivist, helping readers understand the relationship between different items, manufacturers, and global regions.Inclusive Global Scope of Star Wars Treasures: Bridging the gap between traditional toy collecting and the broader physical legacy of the Star Wars brand, the books create a shared experience for all fans, displaying a sprawling galaxy of toys (including action figures, crafts, figures, games, and models) and household treasures (art, automobile accessories, bedding and towels, books, cards, clothing, computers and accessories, dishes, furniture, jewelry, media, packaging on all sorts of food items and household goods, party supplies, and more). A reliable and organized starting point for research into any Star Wars collection, this five-book set is the encapsulation of Carlton’s career-spanning quest to transition the physical legacy of the franchise from scattered hobbyist knowledge into a permanent, structured, and accessible record, ensuring that the history of every item is preserved for future generations.
