Fundamentals of Sharpening (Back to Basics): Straight Talk for Today's Woodworker (Back to Basics (Fox Chapel Publishing))

Product Description

How to keep hand and power tools sharp for increased efficiency and improved quality! Here is what you need to know about the numerous sharpening instruments available, such as grinders and bench stones, and which ones you will need. But John Kelsey offers more. He wants woodworkers to embrace the fun and spirit of sharpening rather than viewing it as a rainy day chore. He explains how and why frequent sharpening attention enhances efficiency and quality. He offers sharpening techniques for hand tools such as planes, chisels, saws, and gouges and explains the importance of using well-maintained blades and bits to extend the life of power tools. Kelsey offers sharpening tips and methods, and photographs offer a display of equipment and accessories. Everything is offered in plain-spoken language that you would expect from the trusted uncle or woodshop teacher who got you started. Now you can get a sharp edge on molding cutters, router bits, and (of course) knives. Sharpening gouges is also addressed, along with a handy shop-made jig to assist you. Maintain your bits, hand tools, and carving tools. Kelsey includes sections on bench stones, bench grinders, and other sharpening supplies as well as helpful shop recommendations. This book will not only jumpstart you but should also help you improve your skills, which makes it quite enjoyable.
