The tools are designed to be safer (than High Speed Steel) by holding them horizontal, on center to the workpiece and flat on the tool rest. Simply advance the tool slowly straight in or by sweeping the cutter from left to right, or right to left. You will find these tools invaluable for those smaller more intricate turnings, such as smaller bowls, platters and ornaments.
