Flexible supports such as canvas are not well suited to these conditions, which is why professional encaustic practice favors stable panel supports. Encausticbord features a specially formulated, heat-resistant encaustic ground applied over a rigid Hardbord™ core, allowing molten wax to bond into the surface rather than sit on top. The proprietary white ground creates a bright, velvety surface that supports heavy layering without cracking, separation, or surface failure. The underlying Hardbord™ panel is sealed with Ampersand’s Archiva-Seal™ to provide long-term dimensional stability and help protect finished artwork from support-induced discoloration.
