Fitting a M12-1.75 metric coarse thread and standing shorter than a standard nut, a jam nut is run down against a second nut or a fitting and then tightened against it, so the two jam together and hold their position without backing off as the assembly is used or adjusted. The reduced height does two jobs. It lets the nut fit into shallow clearances where a full-height nut will not, and it provides just enough thread engagement to lock a setting without adding bulk. Six flats take a standard wrench, so the jam nut is set and held the same way as any hex nut. Made from steel with a protective zinc plating, the jam nut resists rust and corrosion for dependable indoor and light outdoor use.
