The APEC Water Systems FI-KDF55-10BB is a dual-stage whole-house replacement filter cartridge engineered for point-of-entry contaminant reduction across municipal and well water supplies. It combines two high-performance filtration media in a single 10" x 4.5" Big Blue cartridge: KDF55 redox media and granular activated carbon (GAC). KDF55 Redox Media consists of high-purity copper-zinc granules that reduce contaminants through oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction and ion exchange. KDF55 is an EPA-recognized water treatment technology effective against heavy metals including lead and mercury, free chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, and iron - without the use of chemicals. It also inhibits bacterial growth within the filter media, extending service life and maintaining filter integrity between replacements. Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) complements the KDF55 layer by adsorbing chloramines, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the organic compounds responsible for off-tastes and odors. The combination of these two media addresses a broader contaminant spectrum than carbon-only or KDF-only filters, making it well-suited for whole-home pre-filtration. The FI-KDF55-10BB is rated at 10 microns nominal and treats up to 30,000 gallons per cartridge. It is WQA-tested and certified, NSF/ANSI 42 materials compliant, BPA-free, and manufactured in the United States. The cartridge is a direct drop-in replacement for any standard 10" x 4.5" Big Blue housing - no tools or modifications required.
