About this item

• Origami is originally from China. Since ancient times, it has been loved as an art form. In recent years, origami has been used in a variety of ways, for writing messages and making crafts for instance. Also, when a tragedy such as an earthquake or tsunami occurs, “Senba-Zuru” (a thousand paper origami cranes strung together) is made by people from unaffected areas who are praying for the victims to recover. Origami is used to give shape to their thoughts.
• With a simple piece of origami paper, you can make various kinds of origami figures such as animals, vehicles, and characters from comic books or animations. For example, you can make a dog, lion, crow, panda, car, ship, airplane, ninja, samurai, or dragon. Easy figures are used as an educational toy or learning aid to help use their brains while using their fingers. Difficult figures are widely admired as art in exhibitions or competitions.
• Size: 150 x 150mm (5.9 x 5.9 in), Material: Minowashi (Japanese Paper)
• This traditional Japanese paper is called "Mino Washi" made in Gifu prefecture, Japan. Mino Washi was designated an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2014, and it has been very popular not only in Japan but also overseas.
• The quality of general paper will be rapidly deteriorated after about 100 years since the paper is made because some chemicals are used to make paper appear whiter. However, it is said that Mino Washi made by skilled craftsman will not be deteriorated even after 1,000 years because Mino Washi is made from natural plants.
