AXA was a comic strip that began life in 1978 in the UK’s The Sun newspaper as a daily strip on page 3. The comic ran from 1978 to 1986 and was created and illustrated by Spanish artist Enrique Badía Romero, often known as and signing off as simply ‘Romero’. The comic strip was later published as comic books and featured heavy amounts of nudity and scantily clad AXA as the main protagonist. AXA centres on a woman who leaves the confinement of the strict society within the City of Domes, set in the year 2080 after the Great Contamination decimated the land and caused mutations and creatures to dwell in different parts around the world. After breaking free, AXA goes off on her journeys with a trusty sword and a frequent robot for company, along with other male partners. She battles giant spiders, toads and comes across all manner of creatures and evil people in this classic sci-fi comic. AXA comics have attained a cult status around the world in various countries and is seeing a new lease of life.
