Product Description

penepico Montessori Decanomial Squares Table of Pythagoras – Complete Multiplication & Squaring Material for Children Ages 4-9 🌿 The Beauty of Multiplication Made Visible for Kids In the Montessori mathematics curriculum, the Decanomial Squares (also known as the Table of Pythagoras) is one of the most visually stunning and mathematically profound materials for young learners. With 55 color-coded wooden pieces, children construct a perfect square that represents the multiplication table from 1 to 10 – a concrete expression of abstract mathematical relationships that kids can see and touch. This material is known by many names: Decanomial Squares, Table of Pythagoras, Multiplication Squares, Montessori Decanomial, Pythagoras Board, Color-Coded Multiplication Squares, Sensorial Decanomial, Decanomial Box, and Multiplication Table Squares. Whatever its name, its purpose remains – to make multiplication, squaring, and algebraic thinking tangible and beautiful for children. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that children learn best when they can hold mathematical ideas in their hands. The Decanomial Squares demonstrate this perfectly – a child who cannot yet read can see that 3x4 and 4x3 make the same rectangle, discovering the commutative property through direct manipulation. “The child's mind is not a vase to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” — Dr. Maria Montessori 🔍 Premium Materials – Built for Generations of Young Hands · Pieces: 55 solid beechwood squares and rectangles in 10 color-coded shades · Color Key for Kids: Red (1), green (2), pink (3), yellow (4), light blue (5), purple (6), white (7), brown (8), dark blue (9), gold (10) – matching the Montessori bead cabinet for easy recognition by children · Each Color Set Includes: The square for that number, plus one rectangle for each factor combination (rectangles can be rotated to represent both orientations) · Red Set: One 1x1 square (two pieces total for red) · Green Set: 2x2 square plus 2x1 rectangle · Pink Set: 3x3 square plus 3x2 and 3x1 rectangles · Yellow Set: 4x4 square plus 4x3, 4x2, and 4x1 rectangles · Light Blue Set: 5x5 square plus 5x4, 5x3, 5x2, and 5x1 rectangles · Purple Set: 6x6 square plus 6x5, 6x4, 6x3, 6x2, and 6x1 rectangles · White Set: 7x7 square plus 7x6, 7x5, 7x4, 7x3, 7x2, and 7x1 rectangles · Brown Set: 8x8 square plus 8x7, 8x6, 8x5, 8x4, 8x3, 8x2, and 8x1 rectangles · Dark Blue Set: 9x9 square plus 9x8, 9x7, 9x6, 9x5, 9x4, 9x3, 9x2, and 9x1 rectangles · Gold Set: 10x10 square plus 10x9, 10x8, 10x7, 10x6, 10x5, 10x4, 10x3, 10x2, and 10x1 rectangles · Storage Box: 10-compartment MDF box with fitted lid for organized storage · Box Dimensions: 34 x 27 x 5 cm (13.4 x 10.6 x 2 inches) – perfectly sized for children · Total Weight: 1.3 kg (2.9 lbs) – stable during use by kids · Finish: Smooth, non-toxic, child-safe – meticulously sanded, no sharp edges 🧠 What Children Learn with This Material Multiplication Table Visualization: Kids build the entire multiplication table from 1x1 to 10x10 as a single, cohesive square. They see that 4x3 and 3x4 produce identical areas – discovering the commutative property concretely. Perfect Squares & Squaring: The diagonal line of squares (1x1, 2x2, 3x3...10x10) stands out visually. Children learn that squaring a number means multiplying it by itself. Algebraic Preparation: Older kids discover that (a+b)² = a² + 2ab + b² by observing how the 3x3 square plus its surrounding rectangles create larger squares. Pattern Recognition: Children observe patterns – the colors repeat predictably, and the square grows symmetrically, building mathematical intuition. Logical Sequencing: Building the decanomial requires following a precise sequence, developing logical thinking in young learners. Fine Motor Control: Placing pieces precisely refines hand-eye coordination and pincer grip for toddlers and young children. Concentration & Patience: The complete construction takes time and focus – developing sustained attention in kids. 🏡 Where This Material Belongs for Young Learners Montessori Homeschool: A core mathematics material for children ages 4-9.
