Morris’s wife, Jane Burden Morris, a classic “stunner" as the men termed the beauties, earned no fame for her talents, yet she and daughter May were artists in their own right, designing, stitching, and overseeing masterpieces of Morris needlework. Despite late-century conventions that kept them behind the screens and drapes they stitched, women in Arts and Crafts circles were true design partners.
