- It’s easy to paint The Gargoyle Bookends: Spray gray acrylic paint for a base coat. Allow to completely dry. Apply a black wash, allow to flow into groves of the bricks and the fingers and toes. Allow to completely dry. Dry brush white or light gray to highlight details. Finish with a clear sealer.
