A great read for Doom fans and the Doom-curious." – Jeff Green in Computer Gaming WorldIf you've ever played a video game, you've no doubt heard of Doom. A seminal first-person shooter that rose from the ashes of Wolfenstein 3D, Doom managed to capture the heart, soul, and ludicrous gibs of gamers across the world and Hell alike from the original game released on MS-DOS in 1993 all the way to the latest entry, Doom: The Dark Ages, on modern consoles. In Doom Video Games: How a Doomed Space Marine Changed Gaming Forever, author Mat Bradley-Tschirgi looks at the core Doom games, their most notable ports, the motion pictures, and even early games (who can forget Dark Designs I: Grelminar's Staff?) that served as inspiration for the fast-paced demon battling gameplay everyone grew to know and love.In his signature style, Mat also offers over a dozen candid interviews with game designers (John Romero, Tom Hall, Sandy Petersen), programmers (Randy Linden, Rebecca Heineman), gaming enthusiasts (Anatoly Sashkin, BhaalSpawn, Xous) in the midst of his cheeky yet candid analysis of the games themselves. Mat also looks at some of the more obscure variants (Doom on the Sega 32X, anyone?) and celebrated fan-made levels, making this a fascinating tome packed with over 120 pictures for your practical perusal! It's time to lay down your plasma rifle, crack open a beverage the Doom Slayer would be proud of, and dig into a book like no other that will bring old memories rushing back and inspire you to create new ones.
