Homes become memories, familiar streets become unrecognizable, and everyday necessities become daily struggles. Alongside his family, he endures displacement, hunger, fear, and loss while searching for safety in a place where nowhere truly feels safe.Yet this memoir is about more than war. It is about the strength of family bonds, the friendships that endure in the darkest moments, the faith that sustains hope when hope seems impossible, and the resilience that allows ordinary people to keep moving forward despite extraordinary hardship.Mohanad does not merely recount his personal experiences, he also reflects on the broader meaning of war and human conflict. Drawing from what he has lived through and witnessed, he shares his perspective on the human cost of violence and advocates for a world where every person’s life and dignity are valued, regardless of their identity or place of birth. Through thoughtful reflection, he explores what we, as human beings, can do to prevent such tragedies from repeating themselves. He emphasizes that lasting peace is built not through force, but through understanding, justice, compassion, and a recognition of our shared humanity. For anyone seeking to understand the human cost of conflict through the eyes of someone who lived it, The Sky I Lived Under is an unforgettable and deeply moving journey.
