A Contemporary Perspective on the Old Testament (Protestant Version) (FOUNDATIONS OF FAITH)

Product Description

The Protestant Old Testament is a collection of thirty‑nine books that form the foundational scriptures of Christianity’s earliest era. Rooted in ancient Israel’s history, law, poetry, prophecy, and wisdom traditions, these writings record the story of God’s covenant with His people and the unfolding theological themes that shape the entire biblical narrative. The Protestant arrangement presents these books in four major sections—Pentateuch, Historical Books, Poetry and Wisdom, and Prophets—creating a clear and structured progression from creation to covenant, exile, and restoration. This volume explains how the Protestant Old Testament is organized, why its structure differs from other traditions, and how each book contributes to the larger story. It outlines the historical setting of Israel, the development of its sacred texts, and the major themes that define the Old Testament: creation, covenant, law, kingship, justice, mercy, prophecy, and hope. Each section is introduced with a concise overview that clarifies its purpose, literary style, and theological significance.Designed for adults who seek a clear and structured introduction to the foundational concepts, texts, and traditions of the Protestant Old Testament, this guide provides an accessible orientation without assuming prior knowledge.
