About
Distinctive Cloud Design: More fun than traditional cylindrical Galilean thermometers, the fluffly cloud shaped glass vessel rests on a solid wood base, setting it apart from other scientific home décor.
Science Meets Art: The Galileo thermometer is a beautiful device that accurat ely measures temperature while looking stunning on a mantle, bookshelf, or on your desk in the office.
How It Works: Galileo discovered that the density of a liquid changes in proportion to its temperature. As the temperature changes, the balls rise and fall within the cloud. The lowest sphere in the top group indicates ambient temperature.
Measurements: The durable boroscilicate glass cloud measures 4 1/2" high x 5 1/4" wide. Hardwood base measures 4 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" deep; lass temperature beads feature gold tags from 64ºF to 80ºF.
Makes a Great Gift: Perfect for anyone who collects scientific instruments or has a taste for fun and functional home décor. A unique birthday, Chirstmas, holiday, or anytime gift.
Product Description
Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642) was an Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution. His discovery that the density of a liquid changes in proportion to its temperature, inspired the invention and explains the accuracy of the "Galileo Thermometer". The Galileo thermometer is a fascinating device based on the principle that the density of a liquid changes with temperature. This clever thermometer is made of high quality borosilic glass and contains clear liquid with several multi-colored glass orbs containing liquids of different density. As the temperature changes, the balls rise and fall within the liquid-filled thermostatic cloud. Each bulb is calibrated with a small metal tag indicating a specific temperature which range from 64ºF to 80ºF. The lowest sphere in the top group within the instrument indicates ambient temperature. Hardwood base measures 4-1/4"w x 1-1/2"d, and contains five different temperature indicators. 4-1/2"h x 5-1/4"w. Indoor use only. A dynamic and colorful gift.
