Product Description The award-winning Charity and the JAMband: Peanut Butter and JAM is the movin’ groovin’ follow-up to the first JAM CD, Music for Movement with Children. Spanning every genre from bluegrass to funk to rock 'n' roll to surf to meditative, PB&JAM hits a nerve with kids and parents alike. Your family needs this music...push the furniture to the walls, clear the floors, turn up the volume, and boogie down together! You will feel the love, guaranteed. Appropriate ages: 0 - infinity. Charity Kahn sings and plays the blues away with her versatile voice, expansive harmonies, clever piano licks, and fabulous flute frills. The funky, folky JAMband joins in with Charlie Crocker (Daddy Charlie) on bass, Amos Glick (Uncle Mo) on guitar, and Hud Bixler (Daddy Hud) on drums to make this CD truly rock. The music and lyrics are edgy, clever, real, fantastical and fun...no evidence of talking down to kids here. And the bonus: every song has accompanying moves and grooves...get up outta your seat! This wonderfully varied and clever CD won a 2004 Parents’ Choice Approved Award, and received a commendation from Common Sense Media, which noted, "You’ll want to move along with Charity or just listen to her appealing voice, whether you’re young or old. Encourage your kids to dance, and make sure you join in the fun!" For more of the same, check out Charity and the JAMband’s most recent release, Rock Your Socks Off. Review Charity's voice shines! About the Artist Charity and the JAMband is a tribe of musicians, performers, and parents from San Francisco creating an original, rockin', and soulful music and dance experience for families. Due to the huge and positive response from families craving live and recorded music experiences all ages can enjoy together, the JAMband is on its third CD and gigs regularly around the Bay Area and beyond. For parents and kids who want to move beyond nursery songs and banal, mindless mainstream kids music, these tunes blur the line between children's music and music that is, simply put, good.Charity Kahn, founder and leader of Charity and the JAMband, draws upon her experience as a musician, composer, performer, award-winning recording artist, teacher, author, mathematician, rock climber, and, most of all, mother in creation of the organic and evolving experience that is JAM. Under the umbrella of the JAM Music and Movement Experience, Charity guides parent/child music and movement classes, performs both solo and with the JAMband at libraries, schools, music clubs, and restaurants, offers training workshops, and produces recordings. Her own kids (ages 3 and 6) and all the other kids with whom she shares the JAM Music and Movement Experience are her main muses, inspiring such songs as Cake, Tree House, Wiggle, We Like Funky, My Body's an Instrument, Ridin' the Big Waves, and the infamous We Need Mud. She strives to spread joy, connection, and family fun through song, dance, and silliness. She's! been rocking the kids ever since she became a mom. Charity is a classically trained pianist, flutist, and vocalist who has played and sung every type of music from baroque to bluegrass to funk to family-oriented rock'n'roll. She has taught mathematics (The Head-Royce School in Oakland, CA) and private piano and flute lessons to both children and adults. She holds a B. S. in Mathematics from Stanford University, and is the co-author of the book, Math and Music: Harmonious Connections. Other past lives include programmer, environmental activist, SuperScripter columnist for CNET.com, and full-time rock-climber. See more
