The Generac RXSW100A3 is a 100-amp, service entrance rated automatic transfer switch for whole-home backup with a compatible Generac standby generator. Unlike an interlock kit that requires manually flipping breakers, this switch senses an outage, starts your generator, and transfers your entire panel automatically, then reverts once utility power returns. Because it's rated for full 100-amp service, this switch works differently than smaller manual switches sized at 30 or 50 amps for a handful of circuits. It supports your whole panel, up to 24,000 watts across 120V and 240V circuits, covering major loads like well pumps, dryers, and central air along with your refrigerator; actual refrigerator runtime depends on your generator's fuel supply, not the switch itself. Open-transition switching mechanically prevents utility and generator power from connecting simultaneously, protecting line workers and your wiring from backfeed. This switch pairs with Generac standby generators using a floating neutral and an Evolution or Nexus controller. It is not designed for portable generators from other brands or units with a permanently bonded neutral, so confirm your generator's specifications first. The built-in Smart AC Module sequences up to 4 HVAC loads with no extra hardware, and optional Smart Management Modules add more circuit control as your needs grow, rather than locking you into a fixed circuit count. GFCI and AFCI compatibility depends on your panel's configuration; check with your electrician for your specific setup. Since this switch serves as your main service disconnect, installation requires a licensed electrician and permit in most areas; this is not a DIY project. The NEMA 3R aluminum enclosure has a powder-coated finish for corrosion resistance and needs roughly 20 inches of height and 15 inches of width beside your main panel.
