Product Description

“Your focus on the effective use of communications and motivating all Members of your organization to maximize their contribution is difficult to accomplish for the best organizations in the World. Yet somehow, through your Vision and sincere care and concern for all people, you were able to maximize the utilization of your organization! Today Corporations talk about “Sustainability”; components of which include environmental improvements and community participation. Your environmental enhancements achieved in very harsh environments was stellar. But even more impressive is the partnership by you and Raju to provide facilities and services that totally changed the Communities in which your businesses existed. I remember when I visited your Operations. I was quite impressed by the energy and intellect of your Team. You selected well the Team around you! I was moved by the School and Hospital that you and Raju had developed. I remember looking into the eyes of the little children and thinking how blessed they were that it was you and your sweet Wife who had ventured to their Village. Your use of Management Tools and Metrics was critical because they provided a Roadmap for improvement and allowed you to monitor with validity and accuracy your progress. I see many Companies who just “shot in the dark” and then somehow hope that they are successful. Your rigor was a critical success factor for you throughout. What is most impressive is that you did so many things in parallel. Redesigning one key business process effectively is a challenge, basically addressing all key business processes in parallel, is an impossibility; yet you had the courage to do so and the wisdom to pull it off. I couldn’t help but think of our days together at Carnegie Mellon; two kindred souls. Each of us had our own individuality and backgrounds, but our value system was so much the same. As I read your book and thought about what I was doing in the US, at the same time you were recreating your Company, I found great irony. I was going through many of the same challenges, in very similar ways to you. My focus was always on deriving business success by supporting and serving the people in my business. I always wanted the people in our Company to achieve success in concert with the success of the business. Achieving success in business at the expense of my Team, at all levels, was simply not an option. Your love and compassion are what moves me most! It is rare in business. You are a great example of what a true Leader should be. Your example and actions speak for themselves and speak a much stronger message than the written word. I am proud to be your Friend. What is for me sad, that you and I never had a chance to do it together. We would have made a wonderful Team. You commitment to Raju, and her sacrifice and commitment to you, is precious. That commitment surely made a lasting mark on Yeshoda and Gayatri; that may be the most significant gift you ever have given them!” Raymond T. Betler Read more
