Product Description
You are paying six dollars...for patience.Cold brew is the most expensive coffee on the menu and the easiest thing on it to make. No machine. No skill. No timing. You put coffee in cold water and you leave the room. That's the entire technique, and the cafe is charging you fifteen times what the coffee costs for the privilege of having remembered to start it the night before.A batch you make at home costs about forty cents and takes four minutes of actual work, split across a night's sleep.Del "Beans" Berman did the arithmetic standing in his kitchen holding a $6.40 receipt, and then went down the hole. THE COLD BREW UNDERGROUND is what came back: everything that actually matters, and nothing that doesn't.INSIDE:Why your first batch was too strong: the concentrate ratio nobody explainsGrind coarse and mean it: why fines ruin cold brew twice overThe fridge vs. counter argument, and how to settle it for yourself in one nightThe two-stage strain that separates good cold brew from great (and why you must never squeeze the bag)Storage, shelf life, and how to tell under-extraction from spoilageKyoto drip towers, nitro, and the free hot-bloom trick worth tryingWhy your batch tasted great Monday and harsh by ThursdayStraight talk on what to skip, including every "rapid cold brew" gadget ever soldYOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY ANYTHING. A mason jar or the French press already in your cupboard will do it. This book tells you honestly when equipment is worth buying and when it's a seasonal impulse destined for a thrift store shelf.PLUS THE RECIPE VAULT: twenty-two drinks built on one bottle of concentrate. Shaken foam, faux nitro, coffee ice cubes that make your drink stronger as they melt, and a coconut cold brew you'll make all summer. No pretension. No gatekeeping.
