The tool slips over the end of the spiral rod. Turning the tool winds the rod to the correct tension without bending or kinking it, something that is difficult to do safely by hand. The ergonomic grip keeps the motion comfortable through repeated use. Once tensioned, the balance is engaged and inserted into the proper window shoe.
